Persimmon (‘Kaki’) from the Ribera del Xúquer region takes center stage in El Corte Inglés’ “Flavors of Season Km 0” campaign

Persimmon from the Ribera del Xúquer region takes centre stage in El Corte Inglés’ “Flavors of Season Km 0” campaign. The GastroMercats at El Corte Inglés Colón and Maisonnave, and the cafeterias at El Corte Inglés Pintor Sorolla, Nuevo Centro, Avenida de Francia, Castellón, Federico Soto, and Elche will feature a recipe dedicated to this product in their culinary offerings until December 7th. All El Corte Inglés supermarkets in the Valencian Community will sell this local product with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status.

Valencia, November 24, 2025 – The persimmon from the Ribera del Xúquer region, protected by the Regulatory Council of the Designation of Origin, will be the star of El Corte Inglés until December 7th, thanks to the “Flavors of Season Km 0” campaign. This campaign promotes a locally sourced product at its peak season through a recipe created by a renowned chef. The Persimon® persimmon is a source of dietary fibre, and like most fruits, it has a low fat content and a minimal amount of salt. This salt content refers to the sodium naturally present in the fruit. In addition, the Persimon® persimmon provides vitamins and minerals such as vitamin C, iron, potassium, and manganese. It also contains antioxidants and nutrients that contribute to the proper functioning of our body.

The Valencian mussel, Alboraya tiger nut, Alcalá de Xivert hanging tomato, Vinalopó grapes, Ribera del Xúquer persimmon, El Toro black truffle, Benicarló artichoke, Callosa d’en Sarrià loquat, Muchamiel tomato, Valencian citrus fruits, and now, the Ribera del Xúquer persimmon have all participated in this promotion that aims to highlight our local products. Chef Javier Lajara of the Ma Khin restaurant has created this month’s featured dish: “Curry with Persimmon and Chickpeas.” This dish will be added to the menu at El Corte Inglés cafeterias and GastroMercats in the Valencian Community, perfectly paired with Parotet red wine from the Celler del Roure winery.

This initiative, “Flavours of Seasonal Local Produce at El Corte Inglés,” a collaboration with the Inboga gastronomic guide, celebrates this product, which boasts numerous beneficial properties. Furthermore, all El Corte Inglés supermarkets in the Valencian Community will offer this Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) product in their fruit and vegetable sections.

About the Ma Khin Restaurant

At Ma Khin, they offer a cuisine that fosters connection, blending stories, traditions, and flavors. The concept is not simply Asian food, but a reinterpretation rooted in history and a dialogue between East and West. They strive to use local Valencian produce in many of their dishes, adapting techniques and recipes from Southeast Asia.

The restaurant is named after the great-grandmother of its owner, Steve Anderson, who was born in London and is of mixed heritage. It is the memory of his great-grandmother—a great conversationalist, a hearty eater, and an excellent cook—that is reflected in his restaurant. His unique interpretation of Decolonial Asian Food embodies the best of both worlds, rooted in the East but adapted to the Mediterranean.

About Celler del Roure Winery

Celler del Roure was founded in 1996 in the Les Alcusses area, within the municipality of Moixent, in the region known as Terres dels Alforins, famous for its scenic beauty and winemaking tradition. The winery began as a small family project with the aim of producing age-worthy red wines and has grown in recognition and prestige over the years.

They have revived traditional grape varieties; Mandó is one of the most outstanding, almost extinct until they brought it back into production. They use buried clay amphorae for aging in their underground “bodega fonda,” a cellar excavated centuries ago.
