24/7 Valencia: Please could you tell us more about the fundraising project for Ukranian refugees?

Artist Michael Hartt: “Sunflowers for Ukraine is a project to help Ukrainian refugees. I am donating 10 paintings of mine to be auctioned online to support ‘Ukraid’, the Ukrainian refugee centre in Valencia. The project has received generous support from Ros Marcos and Bloom Gallery. Ros Marcos provided frames for many of the paintings and Bloom Gallery is donating their gallery space for an event on the last evening of the auction. 

 I choose to do 10 paintings of sunflowers for this project because the sunflower is one of the iconic symbols of Ukraine and I have painted sunflowers many times over the years. Seven of the paintings were created specifically for this auction. The paintings were done with pastels or acrylic paint and many are on paper that has been recycled or reclaimed. Several are painted on printed music, mounted on a wood panel. The event at Bloom Gallery will be the evening of 4th of May.”
