GRANINI: Christmas means spending time with the family, preparing the Christmas tree, decorating the nativity scene, cooking special recipes with your loved ones… but it is also the perfect time to created Christmas crafts and give your home that personal touch.

At Granini we encourage you to personalise your Christmas with decorative and sustainable crafts, giving a second life to the Granini glass bottle. On our social networks you can get inspired to make the best Christmas decorations by reusing our bottles. Today we bring you an example of a scented candle to fill your home with light and create a cosy atmosphere.

To prepare this fantastic candle that will light up your home this festive season, you will need:

Your granini glass bottle
180 grams of soy wax
20ml of your choice of scent
Dried fruit for colour and decoration
Waxed cotton wick
Cardboard to centre the wicks in the container
Wax melting pot (not used for cooking)
Metal or wooden stirring utensil

*Tip: combine aroma and fruits to create an irresistible scent. Granini recommends adding cinnamon and dried orange flavouring.

The first step is to open your Granini and enjoy it from start to finish. When you’re done, wash and dry the bottle well to start giving it a second life. To make the candle, melt the wax in a saucepan over low heat or you can also heat the pan in a bain-marie. It is important that the wax does not boil. When the wax is completely melted, turn off the heat and remove it. Let it stand for 2 minutes and pour it into the bottle.

Be careful, it burns!

Now it’s time to perfume the wax with 20 millilitres of the aroma of your choice and colour it with pieces of your favourite dried fruit. After 5 minutes, place the wick in the bottle in a centred position with the help of the cardboard: on the surface, place the cardboard strip and the wicks held in the middle of the hole. It is very important that the wicks are centred and straight, so that the candle burns well.

Let the wax cool for about 60 minutes, until it solidifies completely. Finally, cut the wick and leave 1 centimetre long so you can move on to the next step: lighting the candle and illuminating your home!

Here is a list of safety instructions and instructions for use so that you can make your candle and enjoy it safely:

To light the candle, use a long kitchen lighter or waxed wick, and tilt the candle slightly so as not to burn yourself with the flame.
When the candle is lit, do not hold it by the neck of the bottle, as it will get hot and you could burn yourself.
Leave the candle burning long enough for the wax to melt to the edges. Otherwise, the candle may burn a hole in the middle and not burn all the way through.
If your candle burns out, you can cut the wick a little and relight it to reignite the wax.
Don’t let the flame get too close to one side of the container, as it could get too hot and break the glass.
Keep the candle out of reach of children.
