On May 19th, the fourth inter-company regatta for equality between men and women took place in Valencia. The regatta was organised by Corporate Yachting & Partners and invited Spanish businesses to take part as participants in the event. The sailing competition took place at the Copa América regatta course off the port of Valencia and consisted of eight teams, each composed of members of each company involved. The teams had very little or no experience sailing and were either entirely female or mixed-gender, promoting the regatta’s theme of gender equality.
The day-long event began at Veles e Vents, a spectacular building overlooking the Valencia Marina and with sweeping views of the Mediterranean. After an introductory breakfast to kick off the day, a training guide and sailing masterclass was given to prepare the teams for the sailing. The teams then embarked into the ocean, where the goal was to reach several ‘checkpoints’ and take photographs at each station. The team who completed all the photographs and performed this in the quickest time was the winner.
After the excitement of the sailing ended, Veles e Vents hosted a lunch and networking session in which participants, guests, press and staff were able to enjoy the scenic views over the coast of Valencia, enjoy delicious fresh canapés, traditional paella and wine before the teams were awarded their trophies.
The winning team was the Crédito y Caución sailboat. In second place came Carrefour and in third place came Capgemini. Other participants included Biohub, Camilo José Cela University, Kimia Group, Valencia Premium and the Chamber of Commerce with Invest Valencia.
The regatta supported the empowering of women within the community and to contribute to the fight for gender equality, as well as uniting sport, equality and business. 3,500 euros were raised at the event which will go towards supporting projects for women at risk of exclusion from the Red Cross.
