Fado, the most beautiful and nostalgic expression of Portuguese music, arrives at Les Arts en la veu de Mariza, the herald of the classical tradition of this genre that Amália Rodrigues immortalized for posterity in her recordings. Just like the ‘Queen of Fado’, Mariza grew up in a popular neighbourhood of Lisbon, where she assimilated the most authentic trappings of popular music. The publication of her first album in 2001, Fado em mim, was the springboard for an international career that has earned her many awards. This season, to celebrate her career, Mariza, ambassador of Portuguese music, pays tribute to the great lady of Fado in a new album, ‘Mariza sings Amália’, on a tour of the best songs of Amália Rodrigues’ repertoire, which will be sung in this special concert at Les Arts.
