The restaurant ‘Los Gómez’ was recently renovated, presenting its new cocktails, which capture the flavours of Valencia, with its star combination ‘Expresso Cremaet’. Open between 12h to 00h, offering cocktail service, food and dinners non-stop, with signature rice and fish dishes. The recently reformed restaurant, ‘Puerta del Mar,’ has welcomed summer with a new cocktail menu that focuses on local ingredients. Continuing in the chain of restaurants ‘Los Gómez’, the cocktail menu predominantly presents combinations that pay tribute to local culture and traditions.
After the renovation of ‘Puerta del Mar’, one of the main attractions for diners has become the cocktail bar, where a carefully curated selection of cocktails and spirits is offered, complemented by a wine cellar that features exceptional reds, and a fridge stocked with delicious whites and cavas. The cocktail bar, crafted in polished brass, creates a subtle contrast between sophistication and warmth, becoming an elegant yet welcoming environment to unwind.
With this, you can encounter new creations such as ‘Expresso Cremaet’, which takes the classic combination of an Expresso Martini and links it to a classic Valencian ‘Cremaet’, honoured by the earth, the sea and ‘Almuerzo’ (late morning snack) culture. This combination was, at the same time, one of the best reclamations of the grand reopening party on the 22nd of May.
The stand-out creation ‘Expresso Cremaet’, captures the essence of a classic espresso martini – with Absolut vodka, coffee liqueur, berry syrup and espresso – but adds a distinctly Valencian twist, resulting in a truly unique martini experience.
María Martín, Director of Operations for the hospitality group, explains the innovative idea that inspired her to create it: “I wanted to reinterpret a classic, so I started experimenting with the Espresso Martini. Instead of finishing it with vanilla essence and sugar, I decided to add a little cinnamon on top. It gives that authentic Valencian touch. The result was excellent: a chilled Espresso Cremaet, made with cremaet coffee that goes straight into the shaker until it’s ice-cold”.
Alongside the Espresso Cremaet, several other cocktails stand out for their close ties to the restaurant’s philosophy and its new menu. As María Martín, Director of Operations and the creative force behind the cocktail offering, explains: “For the new cocktail menu at Puerta del Mar, I drew inspiration from several aspects. The first and most important was to keep it focused on the Mediterranean and Valencian culture. I used local products with distinctive character. The second was to consider our clientele and where we’re heading: offering a touch of classicism, while also being contemporary, achieving that balance between traditional and modern. For example, we smoke the Perfect Old Fashioned with wood, finishing the service at the table and adding a little showmanship.”
Some other smashing cocktails available on their menu include:
- ‘La Margarita del Patrón’, a refined and characterful take on the classic margarita, was created in honour of Paco Gómez, father of brothers Marcos and José, owners of the Los Gómez group. Patrón tequila blends with the bitter orange notes of Cointreau and the fresh acidity of lemon juice. Egg white adds a silky texture and a light foam that rounds off each sip. A cocktail with history and personality that has inspired many more creations.
- ‘Valencia Imperial’, a cocktail that pays tribute to the land that inspired it. The depth of Barceló Imperial rum combines with the toasted sweetness of amaretto, balanced by lime’s acidity and fresh orange juice, bringing the citrus notes so typical of the Mediterranean. A final touch of basil elevates this drink into a fresh, aromatic, and elegant experience.
- Espresso Martini, which intensifies the energy of coffee with a sophisticated edge. Absolut vodka gives it body, while coffee liqueur adds intensity, and vanilla syrup softens the espresso’s boldness to create a harmonious blend of sweetness and roasted notes. A perfect cocktail for coffee lovers seeking a vibrant, elegant finish.
- Agua de Valencia, possibly the best in the world. Refreshing, sparkling, and full of Mediterranean soul. The result: a festive, citrusy, and balanced cocktail that captures the light and joy of Valencia in a single sip.
Puerta del Mar is the flagship restaurant of the Los Gómez group, a culinary institution that has become a symbol of Mediterranean gastronomy and Valencian identity since it first opened in 1997. Its roots go back even further, to 1989, when Amparo Tamarit and Paco Gómez launched their first bar. Eight years later, they unveiled Puerta del Mar on the beach at Pobla de Farnals. In 2009, the brothers Marcos and José Gómez moved the restaurant to the heart of Valencia, while keeping the original seaside location open.
‘Grand Renovation’ – Fast forward to 2025, and the Gómez brothers have taken yet another bold step. This past May, Puerta del Mar unveiled a complete interior renovation, drawing inspiration from the Mediterranean Sea and the nearby Albufera wetlands. The result is a warm, elegant space that perfectly sets the scene for a gastronomic experience focused on fresh fish, signature rice dishes, and the finest local produce.
“Two ‘Soletes’ for Los Gómez” – The stunning revamp of Puerta del Mar is not the only reason to celebrate. Two other restaurants in the Los Gómez portfolio have also been recognised by the prestigious Repsol Guide. Gran Mercat, in Valencia’s bustling centre, and Los Gómez Pobla de Farnals, in the nearby coastal town, have each been awarded a Solete – a distinction that celebrates casual dining establishments rooted in their local culture and known for excellent service.
Get your cocktail on! Sample the fruits of Valencian culture in this stunningly renovated evening location, and discover the wide array of food, drinks and snacks available at ‘Puerta del Mar’. What will you be having? – I think I’ll have one of each!
