RESULTS OF THE  IV REGATTA OF THE SUMA FIXED BANK LEAGUE OF THE MEDITERRANEAN

The water was calm on the coast of the Levante and the sun ablaze until the 48 boats from 18 teams took to the waters disturbing its tranquillity to begin the IV Regatta of the SUMA Fixed Bank League of the Mediterranean, which took place in Benidorm and financed by SUMA Gestión Tributaria.

Hosted by Club Náutico Benidorm, 450 athletes took part from various rowing teams across the cadet, youth, senior and veteran categories as well as the SCM, a team comprised of those who have overcome breast cancer.

Throughout the course of the day the crowd cheered as these athletes pushed themselves through what is a highly demanding sport requiring strength and concentration, with the cadets competing a 2000m course with 5000m for the rest. This was completed in the style of Falucho Llaüt Valencià, which, for those that do not know, is the tradition of Levantine rowing consisting of eight rowers and a helmsman in each boat.

After an intense day of racing the results came in, and it was the Real Club Náutico Torrevieja who won the women’s category, Club Deportivo de Mar Clot de L’illot el Campello winning the men’s veteran category and the victory in the mixed gender category went to the Club Náutico Jávea boat who won with five participating teams. However, at the end of what was to be a very eventful morning it was Real Club Náutico Valencia who were triumphant in both the women’s and men’s categories holding the title until the next regatta of the Mediterranean SUMA Fixed Bank League which due to take place the 25th February in Calpe.
