SHARING RICE DISHES AT ‘ALQUERÍA DE LA FONT D’EN CORTS’

‘Alquería de la Font d’En Corts’ is tucked into the lush huerta just outside Valencia’s urban centre — yet just the briefest of strolls from major landmarks like the Roig Arena and a pleasant walk from the City of Arts and Sciences — this restaurant is a culinary bridge between rural tradition and contemporary Valencian life. The setting is charming: a restored alquería (traditional farmhouse) with two floors of dining space and a generous outdoor terrace that fills with Valencian families and guests on sunny afternoons. In total, the space can handle up to 300 diners, making it ideal for large groups, celebrations, or simply a leisurely Sunday lunch with friends. Owner Maika is your host and she is really warm and friendly and epitomizes the authenticity of this restaurant. We found the waiting staff to be attentive and informed too. They guided us through the choice of considerable starters, the impressive rice dishes and tasty local desserts.

A Tribute to Valencia’s Rice Heritage

Rice at the Centre

The menu reads like a love letter to Valencian rice culture. Every paella and arroz is prepared from scratch when ordered — a commitment that takes about 30 minutes per dish, but results in depth of flavour that’s hard to rival.

They use locally grown rice from the Albufera region, renowned across Spain for its quality and texture, and saffron (“oro rojo”) to lend fragrance and colour to every pot.

Signature & Seasonal Dishes

Reviews point to a thoughtful range of rice dishes — from the staple Paella Valenciana (with chicken, rabbit and vegetables) to arroz de senyoret con carabineros and arroz con bogavante — all beautifully executed with fresh products from Mercado de Mercavalencia every day.

Beyond rice, the entrantes are refined takes on Mediterranean classics and include and impressive list of both hot and cold starters. Here are just a few from the long list…

  • Esgarraet (roasted peppers with bacalao)
  • Clotxinas al vapor (Valencian mussels)
  • Titaina (traditional huerta tomato stew)
  • Grilled squid in sauce
  • Grilled octopus with potato parmentier

Drinks & Wine

The restaurant also offers a well-curated Valencian wine list and plenty of wines from Ribera del Duero too, perfect for pairing with rich, layered rice dishes, and refreshing local refreshments like horchata or mistela to end the meal.

Service & Ambience

One of the most consistent praises among diners is the excellent service: attentive staff who know the menu, help with recommendations, and manage large parties with professionalism. Tables are spacious, the terrace is a highlight on warm days, and there is an especially welcoming atmosphere for families.

Whether you’re seated inside on two different floors or enjoying sunshine on the patio, the ambience feels both convivial and relaxed — the sort of place where a long lunch extends into coffee and conversation.

Perfect for Groups & Celebrations

With a capacity of around 300 people, the restaurant thrives on larger gatherings and special occasions. They offer tailored group menus featuring multiple starters, choice of rice, dessert, and even celebratory additions like cava or custom cakes for big events.

This makes it not just a destination for everyday meals but also a go-to for birthdays, family reunions, company lunches, or festive Sunday gatherings.

Authenticity Meets Accessibility

  • Authentic Valencian flavours: The star of the show is the rice — traditional yet elevated, cooked with respect and skill.
  • Great service: Friendly, efficient, and knowledgeable staff enhances the whole experience.
  • Spacious & welcoming: With room for hundreds and multiple dining environments, it works for big groups and casual diners alike.
  • Location advantage: Set in the huerta but minutes from city icons, it’s both authentic and convenient.

Whether you’re a local Valencian or visiting the city in search of real paella (not just “tourist paella”), this is a place that delivers quality, warmth, and a sense of tradition in every bite.

Rices — The Heart of the Menu

This is where La Alquería truly shines. All rice dishes are made to order, taking roughly 30 minutes each, and use DO Arroz de Valencia rice seasoned with natural saffron — the “oro rojo” that gives depth to traditional paellas.

Classic & Signature Rice Dishes

  • Paella Valenciana – The quintessential Valencian paella with chicken, rabbit, vegetables and local aromatics.
  • Arroz de Senyoret con Carabineros – Seafood rice with peeled prawns and shellfish for easy, elegant eating.
  • Arroz de Bogavante – Lobster rice that brings intense marine flavour and luxurious richness.

These range from classic paella to more refined variants, all true to Valencian tradition yet elevated by the kitchen’s attention to detail and use of superior ingredients.

Desserts & Sweet Endings

Desserts round off the meal with comforting and classic options.

  • Torrija de Leche Merengada – A standout dessert that blends traditional Spanish torrija with the creamy sweetness of leche merengada.
  • Homemade Cakes & Seasonal Sweet Treats – Included in set menus, traditional Valencian cakes and house-made sweets typically appear as part of celebratory meal options. We really enjoyed their calabaza asada (roasted pumpkin), cooked hot to contrast nicely with the fresh ice cream and lovingly presented too.

Desserts often reflect local tradition, sweetness without being overly heavy, and pair beautifully with coffee or a glass of mistela.

Alquería de la Font d’En Corts stands out as one of Valencia’s most authentic and beloved rice restaurants — a place where rice isn’t just food, it’s culture. With a vast menu across starters, meats, seafood, rice dishes, and desserts, all anchored in local Valencian tradition and market-fresh ingredients, it’s a destination worthy of both first-time visitors and longtime locals alike.

Whether you’re there for a classic Paella Valenciana, a luxurious bogavante rice, or a celebratory multi-course meal with friends and family, the restaurant delivers quality, character, and hospitality that reflects the best of Valencia’s culinary heritage. Valencians believe that rice should only be consumed during the day and the restaurant is only open from Thursday to Sunday in the afternoons. That is a good sign of its authenticity. This is a proper Valencia day out.
