‘Marino Jazz’ hosts the first concert in Spain by smooth jazz singer Nemyra. The vocalist and composer will perform on July 7 and 8 accompanied on stage by pianist Gavin Holligan and will have a local backing band made up of Santi Peláez (guitar), Tonete Puerto (double bass) and Borja González-Ayllón (drums). The Marino Jazz Club in the neighbourhood of El Cabanyal (Valencia) will offer the first concert in Spain by Nemyra, one of the most promising ‘smooth jazz’ voices of the contemporary jazz scene. Nemyra’s music mixes Brazilian and Latin rhythms combined with pop-soul melodies and jazz chords to create the sophisticated and intimate atmosphere that defines the ‘smooth jazz’ subgenre. For her debut in Spain, Nemyra has prepared a repertoire that will combine original songs with a selection of covers.

Nemyra was born in Italy and raised in Spain, though is currently based in London. From an early age, she developed a deep love for the performing arts, dedicating herself first to classical ballet, a discipline that brought her closer to the world of music and motivated her to learn classical guitar, piano and singing. After a period of training in New Orleans, where she transitioned from her classical approach to a more modern, jazz-oriented style, she moved to London, where she continued to study, compose and work on defining her own sound.

Her first single, “Me Quieres”, a fusion of Latin jazz and bossa nova, was released last October following its premiere on BBC Radio London. The aesthetics of the music video that accompanies the single takes us to twilight beaches and locations closely aligned with the artist’s Latin origins, such as Capri and the ancestral Mediterranean of southern Italy.

Nemyra is currently finishing recording what will be her debut album with producers Gavin Holligan and Grammy winner Gordon Williams.
