‘SQUIB CAKES’ TO PERFORM THEIR TRIBUTE TO TOWER OF POWER AT ‘16 TONELADAS’ ON 14 JUNE

Fun, energetic and an “orgiastic dose of funk,” international band Squib Cakes will deliver an exciting performance at the 16 Toneladas Rock Club on the 14th of June. Squib Cakes are a superband of nine Valencian based musicians, who pay tribute to the legendary funk music of Tower of Power.

The name of the superband in itself is a nod to Tower of Power, inspired by the 1974 funk-jazz classic ‘Squib Cakes,’ on the Back to Oakland album. Emerging from the late 1960s Californian counterculture scene, Tower of Power had the greatest commercial success in the 1970s, and were renowned for their horn-led sound. Squib Cakes will emulate this by performing high energy covers of hit songs such as ‘What is Hip?’ and ‘Soul Vaccination.’

As a collective, the members of Squib Cakes have played, recorded and toured with a number of iconic artists; James Morrison, The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Betty Harris, Eddie Gomez, Armando Manzanero, and many more. Their sold out show at the Cabanyal MUV! Festival in February and the positive feedback that followed highlights their extreme talent.

Squib Cake’s performance on the 14th of June is unmissable if you are a Tower of Power fan, a funk and soul enthusiast, or if you want to spend the night dancing to some upbeat and spirited music.
