SUMA Mediterranean Fixed Bank League results!

The SUMA Mediterranean Fixed Bank League has come to an end! After much build-up and anticipation, the champions of the competition have finally been declared. Spectators were on the edge of their seats during the final Regatta of the regional competition, which took place last Sunday in Denia. More than 650 athletes competed in the high-level rowing event, hosted by The Real Club Naútico of Valencia and organised by the Rowing Federation of the Valencian Community. The long-awaited final had extremely high stakes for the participants, as this was the decider between upholding or losing the league title. The participants met the expectations and offered a great spectacle for the audience, with powerful performances carried out by all competitors.

Cadets category

In the category with the youngest participants, the cadets, the Club Náutico Santa Pola won both the men’s and women’s races. Both of these teams were proclaimed league champions. Club Náutico Santa Pola also participated in the mixed cadet start, along with representatives of Club Náutico Alicante Costa Blanca, while Real Club Náutico Gandía contributed a boat to the mixed cadets. The Gandía team won the regional title in this category.

Youth League

The Santa Pola club completed its triple crown of the season with the final victory in the junior female category. In the Regatta’s final classification, the men’s category of the Real Club Regatas de Alicante team took the victory.

The event also included several races in the SCM category, made up of competitors who have overcome breast cancer. The Alicante team was the winner in this group.

Veteran category

Santa Pola won the women’s veteran race, however, this wasn’t enough to steal the league title from Club Rem Denia who had already confirmed the win in the previous Regatta.

In the men’s veteran race, Club Rem Denia needed to be third to win the league. Having made the top three, the host club took the title, despite Regatas de Alicante winning the Regatta. Club Rem Denia, therefore, achieved a very meritorious double in this category.

The overall champions: Secció Esportiva Universitat d’Alacant and Real Club Náutico Denia

The final races were gripped with anticipation and excitement due to close calls and valiant finishes. In the women’s group, Secció Esportiva Universitat d’Alacant won, with a time of 6 minutes and 45 seconds, and thus reinforced an overall victory that was already guaranteed.

The silver and bronze medals were awarded to Real Club Regatas Alicante and Club Deportivo de Mar Clot de L’Illot El Campello. The difference between first and third place was less than three seconds, meaning the spectators were filled with tension during the final moments of the race.

In the men’s category, four teams had a mathematical chance of winning the cup, meaning tensions were high and any team could have stolen the title. After an exciting race, Secció Esportiva Universitat d’Alacant gained victory with a time of 6 minutes and 1 second, but this result was not enough to lead the general classification.

Real Club Náutico Valencia was second in the race, just over a second behind first. Real Club Náutico Denia, who were co-leaders of the competition before this race, redeemed the third position in the Regatta and went on to win the SUMA League title.
