No better way to enjoy the winter holidays in Valencia than a night of dancing to some hot rhythm and soul music. And Barcelona’s best, ‘The Excitements’ delivered the music exceptionally well! At the centre of this septet is the glamorous voice of Kissia San. Along with brilliant musicianship, the band’s stage charisma comes from Kissia San’s warmth, charm and delivery. She had it all.
With trumpet, saxophone, two guitars, bass and drums, this ensemble captures the energy, groove and finesse of America’s best 60s soul. They are as authentic as the original pioneers such as the Bar-Kays and The Meters. Indeed, they could be a foil for the best of the Stax Records hit-makers back in the day.
A great example is their single We Carry a New World in Our Hearts. It has that familiar rhythm progression as the 60s hit Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Is In). While completely original, the song captures the genre, the time and the place where it all emerged.
So if you like to dance to great music from when single 45 RPMs were spun by the stack on a phonograph player, don’t miss them the next time they come to Valencia.
