FLAMENCO ADDS A NEW PALO WITH “SOSEGÁ”, A PROPOSAL INSPIRED BY THE RHYTHM OF GRANADA FROM THE HAND OF ‘CERVEZAS ALHAMBRA’

This unprecedented creation in flamenco is a gift from the brand to its origin and culture on the occasion of its centenary, which has brought together artists from all generations under the musical direction of composer and producer Javier Limón. Sosegá, el palo sin prisa, can be discovered on Spotify and through a documentary piece produced by Little Spain, now available on the Cervezas Alhambra website. The project was presented at an event held recently in Madrid attended by, among others, participating artists and friends of the brand, who had the opportunity to see, hear and feel Sosegá. In the year of its centenary, Cervezas Alhambra surprises with an unexpected gift to its origin: the unpublished creation of a new flamenco palo (which is how the different styles that exist within this type of music are known) devised together with some of the greatest exponents of the genre and inspired by the city of Granada and its way of life: unhurried. A unique gift that the artists who have participated in its birth have christened Sosegá, el palo sin prisa (Sosegá, the unhurried palo).

This extraordinary tribute to the origins of Cervezas Alhambra and to the culture of the whole country has brought together, for the first time, figures from all generations of flamenco under the musical direction of the renowned and award-winning composer and producer Javier Limón and the creative direction of the CHINA agency, part of LLYC. Together, they have created a palo that aims to celebrate the leisurely, sedate rhythm of life in the city of La Alhambra. A rhythm that reflects the 100 years that Cervezas Alhambra has been creating unique beers inspired by this particular way of being and doing things in Granada, its origin. A shared philosophy that has created a centenary bond, from which this tribute arises.

In order to transmit this characteristic pause, Sosegá incorporates several ideas that are new in the history of flamenco, such as, for example, the fact that, unlike any other palo, it does not have a remate (a very characteristic rhythmic and expressive closure that strongly marks the end of a phrase).

Never before have so many artists from so many places created a new musical style, a unique and extraordinary process born out of respect for an artistic expression that belongs to everyone. A work in which melody, song and dance make up a unique work that has brought together the singers Carmen Linares, Arcángel, Kiki Morente, Sandra Carrasco, Antonio Cortés, Juan Carmona, Saúl Quirós, David de Jacoba, and Gema and Samara Carrasco; the guitarists Diego del Morao and Dani de Morón; the bailaor José Maya; and the percussionist Ané Carrasco. A new palo that, in addition, seeks to endure over time, through an invitation from Cervezas Alhambra to artists of other genres and styles to reinterpret this rhythm; a part of the project that will be unveiled soon.

‘Sosegá is an important milestone for flamenco culture for several reasons,’ explains Javier Limón. “The first is that it is the first palo inspired by the rhythm of Granada, one of the cradles of flamenco. It is also the first time that such a large and diverse group of artists from different generations and backgrounds have created a palo together. From here on, everything is done with humility. Now it is flamenco culture that has to embrace it and incorporate it so that, as they say, it will come together”.

The creation process of Sosegá has been documented in an audiovisual piece produced by the renowned production company Little Spain, which offers an intimate and revealing look at the work of the artists. This documentary delves into their shared vision of a way of understanding life and creation that is very present in Granada, the city where they meet to compose this new flamenco palo. The documentary was presented recently at an exclusive event held at the Callao Cinemas in Madrid, where friends of the brand had the opportunity to discover it and enjoy the first live performance of this new flamenco style by the participating artists.

Sosegá thus becomes an authentic event in the world of flamenco, a gift with which Cervezas Alhambra celebrates 100 years of developing such iconic beer creations as Alhambra Reserva 1925. A beer that follows a slow fermentation process that perfectly reflects that characteristic philosophy that, in this centenary, takes on more value than ever: the unhurried lifestyle.

In short, this is a unique tribute through a musical style that has been the soundtrack of Granada for many years, a city that flows at a different tempo. Sosegá, el palo sin prisa, can now be discovered on Spotify, and through the documentary piece that is available on the brand’s website: https://www.cervezasalhambra.com/es/sosega-el-palo-sin-prisa and YouTube too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz8S-6KrYkY
