SANTA POLA VIBRATES WITH THE BEACH SPRINT SPECTACLE

Santa Pola has been the stage for the Suma Beach Sprint Regional Championship, which was attended by more than a hundred athletes last weekend! This is a very particular type of rowing in which the participants must start and finish the course on the sand. The test: it took place on the popular Gran Playa of this salt town and was accompanied by good weather conditions both on Saturday and Sunday.

The Valencian Community Rowing Federation organised the regatta together with the Club Náutico Santa Pola, host, and had the financial support of SUMA Gestión Tax.

The Beach Sprint is held in open water, and the distance covered by the boat is 500 metres for all categories. The start and finish of the competition is carried out running on the same line, which functions as much a starting point and a finishing point, which gives the test a distinctive touch. Skill in moving around the arena and correctly executing manoeuvres, boarding and disembarking is essential.

The participating categories in this fourth edition of the Regional Beach Sprint were cadet, junior and absolute. In addition, the teams competed in the C1X and C2X categories, corresponding to the individual and couple modalities.

The competition was organised in several phases. An initial time trial gave way to the qualifiers, key to defining participation in the final B or in the final A, which is the one that would crown the winner of each modality.

The dominant clubs of the weekend were Real Club Regatas Alicante and the Mar Clot Sports Club of L’Illot El Campello, who obtained five and four victories respectively. Among their triumphs, the Alicante club won in two of the three absolute tests, while the other test of this category was for the Campellero club.

In addition, the Real Club Náutico Torrevieja and the Nautical Club Santa Pola each won two gold medals. Also participating in this Regional Beach Sprint Championship were representatives of the Alicante Costa Blanca Nautical Club and the Royal Nautical Club of Calpe.
