VALENCIA…UNSETTLED BY YOUR PACE AND AMAZED BY YOUR SPIRIT!

I will miss your “yes” to life, Valencia! I have watched, quietly amazed, at how tirelessly you keep the pulse of community and tradition alive. One celebration folds into another, as though time itself here refuses to move in straight lines. When the harvest of rice is honoured (Arroz Festival), it is already time for the pageantry of Moors and Christians. And somewhere in between, entire communities gather around wide pans of paella – stirring, sharing, and celebrating not just a dish but a way of being together.

When that fades…Christmas lights begin to glow. And just as the last note of that season settles, Fallas rises—fiery, defiant, unforgettable. When one might imagine a pause, Easter arrives—solemn and reflective—and just right after the streets bloom again with the quiet joy of a colourful flower parade. And then…as if to remind us that the earth is still quietly stretching itself into bloom, the skies lift with Festival de las Cometas!

How do you do it?

I must admit—your slowness has unsettled me at times. I have grown up in a world that often measures worth in speed, in efficiency, in how quickly something can be done and checked off. And yet…even in my impatience… I find myself looking at you in quiet admiration.

Because you understand something instinctively——that in a world racing ahead… what truly helps us thrive is not speed but contact and participation. Life that is touched…not just seen. Lived through the hands, anchored in tradition and felt in the quiet continuity of roots.

I can see here that life is not observed from a distance. It is touched.

Shared. Cooked over long conversations. Sung into the night. Danced into memory

You begin with trust. You make space for strangers…for stories…for pauses. You speak slowly…not because you must…but because you choose to. When someone appears lost, your language gently finds their pace. You offer directions not just with words…but with a presence that reassures. You are never in a hurry to move past a moment.

And perhaps that is your quiet wisdom.

You remind that it is possible for me to hold two truths at once—-to feel the friction of your unhurried rhythm, and to love you for it all the same.

And in the end, you leave me with this knowing—that what makes life meaningful is how deeply we let it reach us.

Valencia, you are not just a place. You are an experience I will carry with me—long after I have learned to move a little slower myself…
