On Sunday 21st January, Club Náutico Benidorm will host the first regional rowing regatta of 2024, co-organised by the Rowing Federation of the Valencian Community, and financially supported by SUMA Gestión Tributaria.
The IV Regata de la Liga SUMA Banco Fijo del Mediterráneo is one of the most important regional nautical sports competitions in Spain. It sees 450 athletes from eighteen of the autonomous federation’s clubs participating in a wide range of rowing categories of different ages: cadet, youth, absolute, veteran and SCM (people who have overcome Breast Cancer). These eighteen clubs are Club Deportivo de Mar Clot de L’Illot El Campello, Club Náutico Campello, Club de Remo Ciudad de Valencia, Club Náutico Benidorm, Club Náutico Santa Pola, Club Náutico Jávea, Real Club Náutico Denia, Real Club Náutico Gandía, Real Club Náutico Calpe, Club Náutico Altea, Real Club Náutico Valencia, Real Club Regatas Alicante, Secció Esportiva Universitat d’Alacant, Real Club Náutico Torrevieja, Club Rem Denia, Club Rem Cía Gandía, Club Cartagho Boga-Santa Lucía Rowing and Alicante Costa Blanca Nautical Club.
Held on the waters of Levante Beach, the route of the boats is one-way and return. Like all other League events, the rowing modality will be the Falucho Llaüt Valencià. This is a style originating from Levantine rowing in which eight athletes and a helmsman participate in each boat. The public will be able to watch the show from the coast, perhaps best from the Balcón del Mediterráneo viewpoint. The regatta will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the departure of the groups of cadets, who will complete a 2,000-metre course, whilst the rest of the category’s distance will be 5,000 metres. The veteran boats will depart next, followed by the youth and SCM boats. The absolutes will close with the last heat scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
