Double bassist and composer Michelangelo Scandroglio has achieved in a very short time an unusual recognition for a young jazz artist.

In his early twenties he was the winner of the Riga International Jazz Riga Double Bass Competition, which earned him a spot at the Beijing Jazz Festival by Adam Yuang Hong.

In 2018 he received the prestigious Tomorrow’s Jazz de Veneto award, as one of the country’s young talents.

In 2019 he was awarded by Paolo Fresu and a jury composed of renowned Italian jazz critics with the first prize of the Conad Jazz Contest, organized by Umbria Jazz.

In 2020 he was selected for AIR, organized and funded by the Italian Jazz Association MIDJ, I-JAZZ and MIBAC.

The Michelangelo Scandroglio Quintet has won the 44th edition of Getxo 2021: “The old saying of ‘saving the best for last’ was fulfilled in the case of this 44th Getxo International Jazz Festival Group Competition. The quintet led by Scandroglio managed to win a well-deserved first prize […]. His ‘secret weapon’ is to carefully prepare his performance, measuring each theme and the intervention of each member of the group so that the result offers a solid musical show” (Juan F. Trillo, Tomajazz).

Scandroglio has studied with Joe Sanders, Harish Raghavan, Ben Street, Furio Di Castri, Aaron Parks, Ben Wendel, Miguel Zenon, Theo Bleckman, Jen Shyu or with Avishai Cohen at the Siena Jazz during the Summer Workshop.

In 2020 In the Eyes of the Whale was released, his first album as a leader, featuring the great American saxophonist Logan Richardson.
This album allowed him to win the Nuova Generazione, a program funded and promoted by MiBAC (activity of the Italian Ministry of Culture), I-JAZZ and SIAE, which organized a tour of major festivals in Europe and the rest of the world.
