BAILAOR ‘JESÚS AGUILERA’ PRESENTS ‘SONÍO’ AT ‘TEATRE TALIA’ ON APRIL 26

THE BAILAOR ‘JESÚS AGUILERA’ PRESENTS HIS MOST INTIMATE WORK: ‘SONÍO’ AT ‘TEATRE TALIA’ ON APRIL 26th!

AN EXCLUSIVE ’24/7 VALENCIA’ INTERVIEW WITH  FLAMENCO DANCERS JESÚS AND PAULA OF ‘SONIO’…

24/7 VALENCIA: JESÚS, COULD YOU TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR MUSICAL BACKGROUND?

JESÚS AGUILERA: “I was born in Seville and have been a professional dancer from the age of sixteen onwards. I have been fortunate to have worked with nearly all of the most important companies in Spain  and musicians of the world of flamenco too. I have also had the pleasure of performing  flamenco shows in many, many countries and on the most prestigious stages too.”

24/7 VALENCIA: COULD YOU TELL SOMETHING MORE ABOUT YOUR TRAVELS?

JESÚS AGUILERA: “Yes, I have done shows in pretty much every continent in the world. In terms of major cities, I have performed in Tokyo, New York, Paris, London, Cairo, Montreal, Berlin and more….”

24/7 VALENCIA:WHAT IS THE  ESSENCE OF FLAMENCO?

JESÚS: “For me, the essence of flamenco is to be yourself and have your own personality, ‘feel’ and know how to transmit what you are feeling. You could be the singer, the dancer, the guitarist or the percussionist. If you can make the audience get emotional and feel too, you are creating  magic and you have ‘duende’.”

24/7 VALENCIA: PAULA, CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR EXPERIENCES AS A FLAMENCO DANCER IN SPAIN AND ABROAD?

PAULA SANJUAN: “A lot of work goes into being a professional dancer, like professional athletes. We are always careful about our diets, working on our physique regarding muscles and core strength. We also revise our flamenco costumes too.  I feel that all of this effort, before going on stage for each show, is more recognized abroad than here in Spain…in my experience. That is why it is such a joy to perform in places like Japan.”

24/7 VALENCIA: PAULA, WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOUR SHOW AT ‘TEATRE TALIA’ ON APRIL 26th IN VALENCIA?

PAULA: “It’s a show open for all ages, for the young and the old. I don’t want to give too much away… but there will be pleasant surprises! There’s going to be dancing,  singing, guitar, special sounds (‘sonio’)  and some fusion too. We invite you all to experience this special show at ‘Teatre Talia’ that we know you will want to return to… again and again!

24/7 VALENCIA: JESÚS: CAN YOU TELL US SOMETHING ABOUT THE OTHER MUSICIANS WHO FORM PART OF THE SHOW?

JESÚS: “It’s going to be a really complete show of the highest quality flamenco, musically-speaking, and that includes the genres of flamenco and some elements of jazz and rock too.

We will have the renowned flamenco dancer Paula Sanjuan, with me, as a major part of the show.

On the guitar, we have the virtuoso guitarist Juan de Pilar. He’s a superb, master musician… full of soul and feeling and technique and ‘flamencura’ and a wonderful composer too.

On percussion, we have the privilege of ‘José el Negro’…he’s a fantastic percussionist with a really great sound and does choruses too. He’s ace!

We have the impressive gypsy singer ‘Joselín Quirós’…a truly  spectacular voice that is liberating… real  flamenco at its best. He is our main singer on stage.

On bass, we have the great musician Rober Molina who comes from the world of flamenco and rock too. He’s a master of counterpoint in music!

On saxophone,we have the Valencian musician Javi Forner. He has great technique and is an incredible sax player with a real understanding of the fusion between  jazz and flamenco. He’s a great musical arranger too.

Oversall, it’s an impressive team of musicians and performers with a strong and clear musical identity. Last but not least, I would like to include our talented sound & lights man José Trullenque…a really essential part of the team!

24/7 VALENCIA: CAN  YOU TELL US ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF THE SHOW, ‘SONIO’?

JESÚS: “Solitude uncovers the interior of oneself… ‘Sonío’. It is a trance of intimacy, passions, nostalgia and joy. Moments of being face-to- face with an echo, a memory, a sound that resonates within. With the virtuosity and fluency of the guitarist Juan de Pilar, singing and dizzying mixtures of rhythms, the bailaor captures and expresses experiences lived by us all… with movement and with sound. There are moments of ‘cuerpo a cuerpo’ with the audience, a ‘quejío’, a distinctive note, chords that are improvised with wildness too. It’s about the future… and life itself.”

“‘Sonio’ …Ese dia se lía. ¿Donde? ¡El 26 Abril en el Teatre Talia’!”
