Mark Knopfler, who released his ninth studio album under the title ‘Down The Road Wherever’ in 2018, has always seen touring as an integral part of the album release process, moving from composition to recording and ending on the road, playing his usual hits and his new songs.
Says Mark: “My songs are made to be played live, I love the whole process, write them alone and then record them with the band, but without a doubt, the best part is to play them live for the audience. From city to city and interacting with everyone is an absolute pleasure, I really want that moment to come. “
Knopfler will perform on this tour with an expanded band of ten members, most of whom have been working with him for more than two decades: Guy Fletcher (keyboards), Richard Bennett (guitar), Jim Cox (piano), Mike McGoldrick (flute), John McCusker (violin and cyster), Glenn Worf (bass), Danny Cummings (percussion) and Ian Thomas (drums). The new additions will be Graeme Blebins (saxophone) and Tom Walsh (trumpet). On this tour, we will see Mark Knopfler and his band play a selection of new songs, combined with some of the most well-known and essential themes of his extraordinary catalogue and some surprise recovered from the most remote corners of his repertoire.
Knopfler has released his ninth solo studio album with his own label, British Grove, distributed by Universal / Virgin EMI. Titled ‘Down The Road Wherever’, it contains 14 well-constructed & elegant new tracks by Knopfler. Mark has the eye of a poet to narrate the details that endow his songs with a unique psychological geography – “where the Delta joins the Tyne” as he describes it – and his warm vocal tone from the northeast, as well as his melodic, rich and skillful way of playing the guitar that is all as overwhelming as ever.
Acclaimed as one of the best guitarists of all time, Mark Knopfler has sold more than 120 million albums between Dire Straits and his solo career, and many of his songs have become standards such as’ Money For Nothing ‘,’ Sultans Of Swing ‘ , ‘Romeo & Juliet’ or ‘Walk Of Life’. Mark Knopfler has released nine solo albums to date, in addition to recording ‘Neck And Neck’, with the great guitarist Chet Atkins and has collaborated with Emmylou Harris on ‘All The Roadrunning’. He has created soundtracks for ‘Local Hero’, ‘The Princess Bride’ and ‘Altamira’. In addition to the production of his albums, Knopfler has produced albums for Bob Dylan and Randy Newman among others. Knopfler was named Knight Commander of the British Empire in 1999 and received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2012 Ivor Novellos Awards.
The tour of Mark Knopfler in Spain is produced by Doctor Music Concerts and Riff Productions.
