Local chef and head of the kitchen, Carles López captures the essence of timeless dishes at his restaurant. ‘Al Grano’, located in the residential area of La Cañada, is a restaurant that specializes in rice dishes from the past, present, and future. Built on family tradition, the small restaurant uses López’s recipes from his mother to refine and adapt to the current tastes of today. A carefully curated balance between traditional cooking and contemporary cuisine, Al Grano manages to remember its roots while looking toward the future to bring the very best dishes to all those who dine with them. López wants to offer guests the cuisine that he grew up, paired with his years of training in Valencia and the Basque Country.

Look to the several awards and competitions that the restaurant has won under Carles López. After the restaurant’s opening in 2017, the head chef has had numerous successes. In 2019, López won two third prizes, one at the National Paella Contest in Cullera, and another at the International Steak Tartare Contest at the Meat Carnival in Valencia. Going for gold in 2022, López won the prestigious International Valencian Paella Contest in Sueca.
‘Al Grano’ looks to please in all aspects, not only in their kitchen, but also in the dining room and outdoor terrace. With full renovations soon to come, the dining room and outdoor terrace that were carefully crafted and designed will become even more welcoming and up-to-date once finished.
Though the restaurant didn’t stop there, because with the help of Sonia Lluch, coordinator of the team and the elegance of the restaurant, the establishment is taking steps towards a new logo, corporate colour, and redesigned website. As they look toward the future, ‘Al Grano’ is aware of their need to update without losing sight of what brought people in from all over, rice. Although the culinary proposal centers on rice, they also offer an extensive tapas menu and Mediterranean dishes of all kinds.
