WHERE THE AMALFI COAST COMES TO VALENCIA: INSIDE ‘NONNA LIMONE’

Tucked into Plaza de Cisneros, one of the quieter and more charming squares in the heart of Ciutat Vella and lined with orange trees that feel almost too perfectly placed, Nonna Limone arrived in February 2026 with a simple but confident premise: to bring the food and spirit of southern Italy to Valencia, without apology and without compromise. The name sets the tone immediately. ‘Nonna Limone’ means grandmother lemon in Italian, and that combination of warmth and citrus sharpness runs through everything the restaurant does, from the suspended lemon garden in the interior ceiling to a menu anchored by the bold, product driven cooking of the Campanian coast. The lemon is not decoration. It is the point.

The Story Behind the Concept

Nonna Limone is the latest opening from Grupo Tutti Fratelli, a team of Valencia-born partners led by Jorge Herrero who have built a growing family of Italian restaurants across the city, including the established Mamma Pazzo and Mamma Pizza. Within that family, each concept carries its own personality: Mamma Pazzo is extravagant and festive, Mamma Pizza is urban and casual, and Nonna Limone is something else entirely, the grandmother of the group, embodying Mediterranean wisdom, tradition, and the particular kind of warmth that comes only from someone who has been cooking the same recipes for decades and knows exactly why they work!

The team did not guess at that warmth. They went looking for it. Multiple research trips to Naples and along the Amalfi Coast, during which the team tasted more than 300 dishes, formed the foundation of a menu that is both rooted in authentic southern Italian cooking and passed through a personal filter that makes it feel alive rather than nostalgic.

The Space

Walking into Nonna Limone feels like walking into a very beautiful idea of an Italian grandmother’s home, one where the table is always half set just in case you arrive hungry, and where the design reinforces every element of that narrative. Natural materials, a suspended ceiling installation of lemons in the main room, and a glass enclosed winter garden space called the giardino create an interior that is warm without being heavy, and colourful without being chaotic.

The restaurant operates with continuous kitchen service from 9am to 1.30am, making it genuinely flexible in a city where that kind of all-day availability is still relatively rare. It works as a breakfast spot, a long lunch destination, a dinner table, or a place for a late drink and something small, without feeling stretched across those different functions.

What to Order

The menu is organized around the DNA of the Amalfi coast: seafood, citrus, pasta, and the bold flavours of southern Italian cooking. Among the standouts, the croquettes of guanciale with egg yolk cream and pecorino bring intense cured pork and sharp Italian cheese into a single richly flavored bite. The octopus carpaccio with agridulce lemon vinaigrette and sun- dried tomato carries the acidity and gentle heat that define the coastal Neapolitan style. In the pasta section, tagliatelle al ragú bolognese and eight cheese pasta represent the comfort end of a menu that moves between indulgence and freshness across its full range.

On the pizza side, the house uses a stone oven for its classic round pizzas alongside an offering of pizza frita napoletana, the fried Neapolitan street-food version, which has developed a reputation as one of the stronger pizza options in the city centre. The risotto alla Campania rounds out a menu that gives every table something to come back for.

The Cucina di Nonna Competition

Beyond the daily service, Nonna Limone recently made headlines across Valencia for a one-of-a-kind event that brought its founding concept to life in the most literal way possible. The first edition of Cucina di Nonna brought together four pairs of grandmothers and granddaughters to compete in a live fresh pasta making contest, with a trip to Italy as the prize. The jury included the founder of Trattoria Da Carlo, two chefs, and other industry figures. The pairs included content creators, journalists, and a tattooist, all accompanied by their nonnas, and the event produced the kind of genuine emotion that money cannot manufacture: an 86-year-old grandmother cooking pasta alongside her granddaughter in a restaurant that was built to celebrate exactly that.
