Honouring Legacy and New Achievements
The Real Sociedad Valenciana de Agricultura y Deporte (RSVAD), more commonly known as the Casino de Agricultura, celebrated its annual “Día del Socio” (Member’s day), which recognized long-standing members and emerging talents. This year, silver medals were awarded to José Prefaci, Francisco Prefaci, Joaquín Sanz de Bremond, Mercedes Ygual, and José Antonio Ortenbach, Baron of Brugete, for their 50 years of membership. The bronze medal was presented to Pedro Gonçalves, who, at just 36 years old, has been named a World Bridge Master.
Valencian Cultural Cornerstone
The Casino holds a large amount of cultural significance, founded in 1858, with only 43 members; it is a historic cornerstone for Valencian culture, society, politics, and intellectual life. The Casino has over a thousand members today. Throughout its history, the Casino has seen its members recognized around the globe for their achievements in a variety of fields, including medicine, law, politics, and even a Nobel-Prize recipient.
Promising Future
The young Pedro Gonçalves was recognized with a bronze medal, building upon his already inspiring and impressive resume. Gonçalves was introduced to Bridge by his parents and has gone on to represent Spain in multiple European and International Championships, securing titles along the way. His dedication to his craft reflects the Casino’s legacy and consistent pursuit of excellence.
The Casino continues to thrive under President Manuel Sánchez Luengo, preserving its rich heritage, while looking towards the future, ensuring the Casino stays a Valencian cultural cornerstone.
