1. What is the history of Jarité?
Jarité owner Robi Bertasi:
Around three years ago, ‘Jarité Espai Obert’ (Cultural Association) started a new stage with its current management. We have added new workshops and a more ample programme of cultural events to strengthen its presence in the creative neighborhood of Ruzafa and the city of Valencia. We have developed different types of activities including talks, book presentations, thematic cinema evenings and especially music in all its aspects, with the participation of creators of our city and guests from the rest of Spain and other countries. This is a space open to different proposals.

2. What kind of activities?
Currently, as fixed activities, the workshops we give include Flamenco dance, African dance, Belly dance, Argentinian folklore & Mexican folklore. There are three fixed musical spaces: Peña de Tangos Caminito (Wednesday), El Rincón del Feeling (Thursday) and La Peña de Ernesto Urra (Sundays). In these events, in addition to invited musicians, we invite everyone else along to sing and participate.

On Fridays and Saturdays we offer concerts starting at 9:30 p.m. with different musical proposals. Musicians of great quality and with proposals of all kinds have passed through our space. Local artists and guests who come to our city to get their art known here. They are not necessarily famous but they are quality acts ready and willing to share their artistry with an open public. Quite naturally, Jarité offers a very warm atmosphere to enjoy good music.

On our Facebook page you can follow all of our activities.

3. Tell us something about the Jarité staff…
Fernando Quiroz and Andrés Piña are my companions. Andrés is a musician and Fernando is head waiter and much loved by the people. You can enjoy beers, wines, spirits & homemade tapas, sandwiches and Argentinian specialities including excellent empanadillas that I recommend. Amongst the three of us, we make a solid & welcoming team. Our good humour inspires us to have our compass pointing in a worthy search for different & new paths to explore along with the public.

4. Do you have special plans for 2019?
This year, in the month of May, we will participate as one of the venues of two Tango International festivals in Valencia ‘El Tangavión’ and the International Tango Festival ‘Desde Dos Orillas’ … where important artists of the Tanguera scene will be coming from Europe and the other side of the pond. We are also preparing an exhibition of Erotic Art that will be on show later this year. As always, we will be attentive and receptive to new proposals and to all good music from around world.
