After visiting the shop I had the chance to speak with Yolanda, the owner of Needles & Pins Vintage. Read on to find out more about the store…

24/7 VALENCIA: What is the history of the shop, when was it set up?

Yolanda of Needles and Pins: I started buying clothes in markets and warehouses whilst travelling, taking pictures of them, and putting them up on eBay. I would put up prices for different items and people started bidding for them. So, eBay was the beginning of my career in selling clothes. I went to a school to learn textiles. Then I went to Facebook to sells the clothes. In June, it will be 8 years since the store opened. I made a website with my boyfriend where we could sell things through the website. Then, we thought we could open a little shop to sell the clothes that are found on the website.

What is the philosophy of your store?

Yolanda: It is all about memories. The memories of people, all the clothes have their own story.

Tell us something about your background and experiences in making clothes.

Yolanda: I went to a school, but I didn’t like the general fashion there. So, I went to an old woman to learn. It’s very simple because I spoke with her and told her that I wanted to make dresses or blouses, so she helped me with making the clothes. And I started to make things with the fabrics I like. I use vintage materials as fabric for the clothes I make.

Tell as more about how you source a vintage collection.

Yolanda: I find most of my collection in large warehouses… where you choose the selection you want. There are different prices, and they can make big batches. I also find accessories on Etsy. And we love to go to markets too.

What is a typical day in the shop?

Yolanda: When it is quiet, I make clothes and sew up new pieces.

What type of customers are your target audience?

Yolanda: I find mostly 70s and 80s fashion, also some 90s but not as much.

Is there anything else you’d like us to know about your shop?

Yolanda: Mainly, that it is a little space of memories where the clothes have meaning.
