THE CANTAOR ‘EL PELE’ WILL BRING THE SOUL AND ESSENCE OF FLAMENCO TO THE FUNDACIÓN BANCAJA

The concert, in collaboration with Pavasal, will take place on Friday 7 February with a journey through iconic songs from his discography. The Cordoban cantaor will perform alongside the guitarist Niño Seve and with El Gómez and José Moreno on palmas (hand-clapping). Fundación Bancaja, with the collaboration of Pavasal, offers next Friday 7 February a concert by the flamenco singer El Pele, who will take the stage of Concerts a la Fundació together with the guitarist Niño Seve and with El Gómez and José Moreno with palmas.

The soul and essence of pure flamenco come to the surface in a show that travels to the depths of the genre in a repertoire that includes zambra, malagueña, soleá, seguirilla, alegría, tarantes, tangos and bulerías. A journey through iconic songs from his discography that is a tribute to the authenticity and tradition of flamenco.

Born in 1954 into a gypsy family in the San Lorenzo neighbourhood of Cordoba, El Pele is a cantaor of great talent with an unquestionable personality and an expressive voice. A revelation artist at the age of 15 when he won the Cayetano Muriel Prize in Cabra, he consolidated his singing and his brilliant career until he reached the maximum recognition of the Concurso Nacional de Arte Flamenco de Córdoba, followed by many other awards such as the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts in 2019. His musical intuition, his knowledge and his innovative personality have led him to share stages around the world with music stars such as David Bowie and Prince.

Niño Seve is one of the most outstanding guitarists in the city of Cordoba with more than 30 years of experience as a flamenco instrumentalist. He has played alongside voices of the stature of José Mercé, Aurora Vargas and El Pele. His career has been recognised by a multitude of awards, such as first prize in the Manuel Cano International Contest and first prize in the Niño Ricardo International Contest in Murcia.

El Pele’s concert will take place on Friday 7 February at 8 p.m. in the auditorium of the Bancaja Foundation (C/General Tovar, 3). Advance ticket sales begin on Tuesday 4 February from 5 p.m. at the box office (Plaza Tetuán, 23).

The next concert in the Concerts a la Fundació cycle will take place on Friday 21 February, featuring the soprano Maite Alberola and the pianist José Ramón Martín. In March, the international artist Glenda del E will perform on 7 March and the cycle will close on 21 March with a performance by the violinist Mauro Loguercio and the pianist Emanuela Piemonti.
