’24/7 VALENCIA’ ARE SADDENED TO HEAR OF CELIA’S PASSING AFTER A LONG BATTLE WITH A SERIOUS ILLNESS: IT WAS A PLEASURE MEETING YOU AND SEEING YOU SINGING LIVE AT JOYFUL CONCERTS IN VALENCIA.

BORN IN GRANADA AND BASED IN VALENCIA, CELIA MUR WAS A TALENTED AND KIND PERSON TO THE VERY END…

“Jazz singer and songwriter, with eclectic training (flamenco and classical), daughter of flamenco composer and guitarist, Antonio Fernández de Moya.

She was a Singer, Teacher and Vocal Coach (for singers and groups) with her own technique and interest in research and the teaching of singing.

She developed her art with musicians and singers from the world of jazz, in Spain and internationally, including  Sheila Jordan, Perico Sambeat, Paolo Fresu, Javier Colina, Marc Miralta, Mark Turner, Jay Clyton, Mark Turner, Luciana Souza, Barry Harris or Jorge Pardo .

Since 2012, she was a voice coach for flamenco-fusion and Spanish folklore at Berklee-Valencia. (Master Class on Scenic Presence, Recital Preparation, Vocal Flamenco and its fusions).

Celia worked at International Festivals with international musicians and composers, such as Uri Cane, Benny Golson, Kenny Barron, Bob Mintzer, Dick Oatts, Antonio Hart, Dave Santoro, Carmen Linares, Perico Sambeat, Antonio Sanchez, Aaron Goldberg, Reuben Rodgers, Fabio Miano, Guillermo Mcguill, Arturo Serra, Gustav Lundgren, Jorge Rossi, Sedajazz Big Band, Granada Big Band, Perinké Big Band of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, among others, touring in Europe, United Kingdom, United States and throughout Spain..

She taught seminars and workshops in different places such as the Palau de la Música de Valencia, the Superior School of Dramatic Arts of Murcia, the Conservatory of Utiel (Granada), Seminary Monforte de Lemos or the Auditorium Alfredo Kraus de las Palmas from Gran Canaria among others.”

She loved the flamenco of Camarón De La Isla, La Niña de los Peines and Manolo Caracol and the jazz of Ella Fitzgerald, Anita O’Day, Carmen McRae, Chet Baker, Thelonious Monk, John Coltrane as well as the music of The Beatles.

Celia Mur was a tirless traveller and played & taught music in various cities like New York, Madrid, Barcelona and her adopted home of Valencia. She made recordings for numerous artists.
