Tuesdays in Benimaclet at ‘SO:KU Solcs Kulturals’ are Jazz Jam nights, a beloved event where local musicians come together to put on family-friendly performances for the community. The Shag Sharks were the featured performers this week and played a wonderful setlist filled with iconic jazz songs such as ‘She’s Funny That Way’, ‘You’re Driving Me Crazy’, and ‘September in the Rain’.
A Warm and Welcoming Atmosphere
The venue was a perfect choice for the atmosphere that the Jazz Jam brings, a warm, family-friendly location that allows guests to relax or catch up with friends and family while listening to their favorite songs. SO:KU offers a variety of well-priced beers, wines, and sodas with assorted tapas to ensure that guests have the best possible experience. Attendees ranged from families with children to couples and groups of friends, creating a genuine inclusive environment for everybody.
A Look into Valencia’s Growing Jazz Scene
‘24/7 Valencia’ had the opportunity to interview drummer Vicent Almenar, who has been playing for 15 years, about his thoughts on the Valencian Jazz scene. Vicent noted that the local Jazz scene has grown significantly in recent years as more musicians come together to play music. The Jazz Jam sessions are an important factor when considering how Jazz has been able to grow as much as it has.
A True Jazz Experience
The Shag Sharks played for roughly an hour before taking a brief intermission, but this was far from the end of the show. To start the second hour of jazz, some new faces came up to the stage to show off their musical talents. The rotation of artists kept the session fresh and unpredictable in the best way. The band took song recommendations from the crowd, which added a personal touch to an already intimate event. The last Tuesday of the month traditionally focuses on classical jazz, differing from the usual string-heavy performances.
Building Community
Beyond the music, the Jazz Jam is an amazing way for people of all ages to catch a glimpse into the rich and rapidly growing Valencian Jazz scene.
