TRIUMPH FOR THE ‘CLUB DE MAR CLOT DE L’ILLOT’ AT THE EUROPEAN ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS !

Last Friday 1st September, the French city of La Seyne Sur Mer kicked off the second edition of the European Sea Rowing Championships 2023; an event that encompasses the two disciplines of open water rowing: Long Distance and Beach Sprint. For this championship, the Rowing Federation of the Valencian Community had 6 athletes selected for the National Team and three coaches in the national team: Andrés Redonda Maseda, Daniel Reinosa Carrillo, Lionel Jiménez Vennegues. In addition to a total of 44 athletes qualified for the club events.

After three intense days held throughout the weekend, the European Committee proclaimed the champions of Long Distance and Beach Sprint in the national and club events. The Gold in the mixed double category in national representation was for the athlete Nadia Felipe García, from CDM Clot de l’Illot El Campello, who together with Adrián Miramón (CR Raspas del Embarcadero), achieved the most exciting final of the championship, proclaiming themselves champions of the European Long Distance Sea Rowing Championships.

El Campello, Alicante and Torrevieja triumph in the representation by clubs

Club de Mar Clot de l’Illot El Campello was also proclaimed club champion in the women’s quadruple sculls (CCW4x+), in a boat crewed by Nadia Felipe Garcia, Lola Garcia Juan, Maria Angeles Purcarea, Ainhoa Casanova Calpena and coxswain Esther Llinares Buades.

The silver medal in the men’s quadruple sculls went to the Club Remo Torrevieja team, who shared the podium with the Ukrainian and French teams and were formed by Koxme Burutaran Olaizola, Ander Martín Domingo, Manuel Emilio Fernández López, Carlos González Buzón and coxswain Cristina Alcaniz Martínez.

The Real Club de Regatas de Alicante also finished runner-up with the men’s double boat (CCM2x), formed by Miguel Salas Córdoba and Marco Salas Córdoba.

Time for the 500 metres from the beach. After finishing the long distance coastal races in this European Championships, on Saturday, the Beach Sprint discipline for the selections of different European countries began.

A 500-metre race, starting and finishing on the beach, where the athletes perform a slalom course on the water. A test of explosiveness, skill and high attractiveness due to its speed and course. Both have a mixed modality, where men and women compete in the same boat. The Beach Sprint discipline is a candidate, pending the IOC’s decision, as a novelty in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The Spanish Beach Sprint Team currently consists of 6 boats, four of which belong to clubs of the Rowing Federation of the Valencian Community, including Club Remo Torrevieja, CDM Clot de l’Illot El Campello, RCN Torrevieja and RCR Alicante.

The paddler of CDM Clot de l’Illot El Campello, Nadia Felipe, was on the podium again; this time to collect the silver medal in the Mixed 2x Beach Sprint category with her partner Adrián Miramón (CR Raspas del Embarcadero). Lola García, also from the El Campello club, took third place in the CJW1x individual category.

The mixed double boat of the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja and RCR Alicante, crewed by Manuel Vera Montesinos and Lucía Navarro Blasco, won the European bronze in the CJMix2x category.

Congratulations to all the athletes and clubs of the FREMOCV for the great results and the goals achieved in this European Championship!
